I'm in a rut. From time to time I become extremely reclusive, and it takes its toll. I no longer feel the desire to see anybody, and become even less social than normal(if that's even imaginable). I become irritable; I become irrational; I become paranoid. It's almost as if I become Truman, only instead of trying to escape, I'm trying to hide.
Poor Catherine, she has to put up with this. It's funny though, how little the reclusive state seems to affect how much I want to see her. If anything, it makes me want to see her more. I love her. I love her more than I've loved anybody before. In fact, she's the first girl I can legitimately see myself (gulp) marrying. I embrace her imperfections, instead of using them to push her away. She doesn't hang me on my insecurities, but rather takes them into consideration. She loves me for who I am, the selfish, caring, intelligent, dumb, silly, gawky, awkward, dorky, nerdy, loving, compassionate, obsessive person I am. And I love it. I love it that I can be comfortable in my skin, and not have to be something else. She's uber feminist, but she plays domestic housewife for me: taking care of me when I'm sick, cooking me dinner, even cleaning out my car. You know, thing's I don't do for myself. But she does it out of love.
We had our first real fight today, over something silly and unimportant. She's struggling with things, as am I, and they both took their toll. But instead of yelling and name-calling, we talked it out and an hour later we were laughing again. It's moments like this where I feel sorry for people who have to work at their relationships. I feel sorry for people who have to fake it. We don't. Sure we have our ups and downs, but it's still so simple. She doesn't get upset over the stupid comments I make like my obsession with Pam Beesly (and quite frankly, Ms. Beesly doesn't hold a candle to Cat). She shrugs it off. She point's out girls that are checking me out; not in a bitchy 'why is she looking at you' way, but in a 'yeah, that's right you can look but he's mine' kind of way. To sum it up, we just don't have to work at being happy and making our relationship work, it just does.
And that's why we're so happy. That's why things like laying in the backseat of a car for hours or watching movies on a couch just work for us. Why we don't have to spend money we both don't have to be happy. That's why something as silly as dancing in the moonlight, swaying while I sing to her "I'll love you forever if I ever love at all" makes her fall in love with me, and her singing back "with wild heart's, blue jeans and white t-shirts" makes me want to spend the rest of my life with her. That's why we're both so excited to see Richmond, Va on our (possible) trip to DC (more on that at a later date) because maybe we'd like to end up there. That's why we go eight or nine days at a time where we see eachother, and can't go more than a day without it. Say what you want, that we're young, that this is still new; whatever. The truth is that I've been around the block. I've experienced my share of relationships, and because of that I know how special that is. To quote the Lawrence Arms : "I know what I've got, and I love what I know."
And, to tie everything back in, that's why I'm content with being reclusive. Because I have what I need. I'm in love, and nothing else matters.
Well, maybe winning my fantasy game today... LETS GO ARIZONA's DEFENSE!!! Ugh, I feel so dirty rooting against the 49ers but lets face it, their season is long over.

How to lose a guy in ten days
Sorry, long time no post.... so lets get started.
Catherine was telling me about this phenomenon called "Mercury Retrograde" (yeah... she's into all that astrology stuff.) I already forgot what it means, so, according to astrology.about.com Mercury slows down and Since Mercury rules communication, it's said that everything goes haywire in that area -- emails get deleted or bounced back, mail is returned, calls go out into the ethers, etc. Some people find that their computers go on the fritz or phone lines go down. Well, it ended on October 15th. Since then my car's maitenance light has come on, my computer completely died(which would explain the delay in posts) and my cable box no longer shows the time. So much for Mercury Retrograde, not that I bought into it in the first place.
On Tuesday Cat and I went to Hollywood to see a taping of the Jimmy Kimmel show, with the Alkaline Trio performing. It was pretty boring. The crowd sucked, the Trio played five songs, two were good (not great, but good) one was decent, and two were forgettable. Matt Skiba looked like a cross between Heath Ledger's Joker, Mike Ness, Willy Wonka, and a salamander. Sigh, at least he's not dressing like a Vampire or A Clockwork Orange anymore.
So I'm the only one working today at my work. Well, outside of a supervisor. So from 2:30 to 11 I will be not only manning the checkstand and photo, but I will be serving ice cream. Indeed a happy halloween to me.
I love 30 Rock, but I'm a bit afraid about this season. Now, before I go any further, let me just say that I missed the season premire yesterday and my tivo decided it didn't want to record it (take that Mercury Retrograde) but it sure seems like it's getting an awful lot of press. And don't tell me, "well it won 3 Emmys last year" because Arrested Development won it's share of Emmys and nobody watched that show. As great as Tina Fey was as Sarah Palin, I think that turned a lot of people onto 30 Rock, and that's not always a good thing. Plus, they're running out guest star after guest star (Jennifer Anniston? Oprah Winfrey?) Honestly Tina, just stick with your SNL friends, like Chris Parnell, who was amazing as Dr. Leo Spaceman.
I've got to get ready for work

Modern Day Romance?
Every night before I close my eyes I like to think about where I was a month ago. I like to think about where I was that night before the Angels loss to the New York Yankees that Tuesday. I like to think how lost I was; how alone I was. I like to think about how empty I was. It's the only way I can truely put this into perspective. It's the only way I can absolutely realize how surreal this all is.
I don't think I can put into words where I'm at right now as opposed to where I was. I was so lost, so confused, so bitter. I was a misanthropic anthropoid with nothing to say. I was frustrated and angry.
And then she came along, like a savior. Like an angel. Suddenly I felt my heart start to pump and the blood begin to run through my veins. My how I had missed that feeling. She made me listen. She made me interested. She re-lit the fire deep inside me. The fire that fuels the passion; that fuels the rebellion. The fire that fuels the interest, and scares off the apathetic tendencies. She made me feel.
She kept me on my toes in the days to come. She had me making excuses during the day while dreaming of the possibilities at night. Finally after one too many drinks I made my move, and never looked back.
I remember that first date like it was just hours ago. I remember the black shirt under the grey cardigan. I remember the blue jeans, and the reddish-brown hair styled down just passed the shoulders and ending just before the small of her back. I remember walking up to BJ's and hoping against hope this would not be awkward. I was praying I could keep the nerves down. I remember making eye contact with her for the first time since we met, and my heart melting. I remember trying not to watch the Packer/Cowboy game that was on directly behind her while she ate her salad and I ate my pasta. I remember talking, about anything and everything, and having a blast. I remember suggesting the movies because I didn't want the night to end. I remember during the movie wondering if I should make my move, wanting to so badly, but not wanting to scare her off. I remember my leg brushing against hers, and feeling goosebumps. I remember after the movies, in front of her car again talking about anything and everything. I remember talking about the Little Mermaid one minute, and feeling her lips the next. I remember being hesitant at first. I remember the slightest autumn breeze blowing by against the warm summer night, as the last minutes of summer were giving way to fall. I remember never feeling this excited, this relieved.
That's what I see when my eyes shut. It's like closing the book on what seems like a long and distant chapter of my life. Now it's filled with beauty; with happiness. It's filled romantical tales of love and (gulp) fairy tale endings. Such a departure; a spin from where I was.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how I know I'm in love with Catherine Szilagyi.

When you don't control your own government people want to kill you...
I just read that Ray Lowry, the man responsible for the now iconic "London Calling" artwork passed away. While it's just coincidence, right now I'm wearing my Clash shirt with the "London Calling" album cover on it. I have no memory of Ray Lowry. I've never heard his name before. I read he was a English cartoonist/satirist and contributed to such publications as the Melody Maker, NME, and The Guardian. Joe Strummer referred to him as a "war artist" while Lowry was invited to cover the Clash on their 1979 debut US tour. I'm staring down at my shirt and I feel a bit remorseful. Another piece of the Clash is gone. Like Joe, though, his work will live on forever.
It took me one and a half hours to get to school today, thanks to an accident clean up right after Ontario on the 15 freeway. It took me an hour to get to the 91 overpass. All this for a clean up. Sometimes I wish I could just leave Southern California. I think I'd be a whole lot happier.
In my last blog i touched on Proposition 8. I feel the need to revisit that topic. I've never been one to get fired up over propositions, but this one rubs me the wrong way. You know what bothers me the most about this proposition, is that as far as we've come as a society; as humanity, we haven't come far enough. In a year that has seen a viable African-American presidential candidate who beat a capable and legitimate woman for the Democratic presidential nomination and a female vice presidential candidate (for whatever reason she got the nod) we still have qualms with homosexuals. And I don't understand why. Lets get one thing very clear, there is nothing wrong with homosexuality. It's an alternative lifestyle choice that is in no way damaging, dangerous, confusing, or harmful. And here we are a society telling homosexuals that their lifestyle is wrong and that we are taking away their right to be happy. Sure, they're allowed civil unions, but what's really the difference between a civil union and the relationship you have with your significant other. And why is it that homosexuals should be treated differently? Because they find the same sex attractive and that disgusts you? Because your children might catch "gay?" Because they might destroy the nuclear family? I hate to tell you this, but the nuclear family was destroyed long ago by heterosexual couples who get married and divorced about as often as getting an oil change. Every three thousand miles it's time for a new spouse. And that's not damaging for children? I know plenty of people who have been permanently scared from divorces. So don't feed me that bullshit that same-sex marriage will destroy the normal family.
And why is it that the government always seems to dictate what people can and can't do in regards to their personal lives. I understand you can't murder, can't steal etc... and that's where the government should govern. With regards to same-sex marriage, abortion, one's right to legally obtain and smoke marijuana and subjects of that matter the government needs to leave it be. Go back to governing a nation for the sake of the public, and not governing the public for the false sense of progress. How about instead of worrying about whether or not gay's can marry they figure out how to end this fucking trillion dollar war. How about, instead of deciding whether or not it's a woman's right to choose they figure out a way to solve the economic crisis that's crippling this once proud country. SIDEBAR: If the government wants to cut down on costs they should de-criminalize weed, cutting down on non-violent drug offenders and in turn spinning a profit on weed. I mean, shit, cigarettes are legal right? but I digress. There are more important issues than ones of personal choice.
Here's the deal, everybody deserves to be happy. Everybody deserves to find love and live out their days with their loved ones. Everybody deserves to be treated equal. You can't decide who can and can't get married based on their sexual preference. I wish that the American people, and the American government would just understand that. Final summation: Vote No on Proposition 8, and let's show the world how far America has come. Don't give me another reason to be embarrassed in not only California but America.
In more positive news (this post has been kind of a downer) things with Catherine are going great. I don't want to get ahead of myself or give any sense of false hope, but I might be just be in this for the long hall. And I've never felt like this before; so absolutely sure that this could work. Normally I'm talking myself into the relationship working, telling myself if I say around long enough I'll actually want a future. Not the case with this one. Listen to me, sounding like I actually buy into love (oh my... I actually do.) She's definitely been a positive change, almost like a savior. I don't know where I'd be right now without her.
I have to go to class.

Are you ready for some (fantasy) football?
After two weeks of bullshit losses (one by one point to Scott Oliverio, and another because I forgot to set my line up and had Randy Moss on the bench) my fantasy team is back up to .500. Even more impressive, they took down Jason's team, the number one team in the league. It took a huge effort from Drew Brees (my fantasy MVP,) Thomas Jones and Marvin Harrison, but I took a 109-102 win from a team averaging just about 130 points a game. I'm also just one game out of first now. Sigh, if only my underachieving wide receiver crew (Santonio Holmes, Randy Moss, Marvin Harrison and Issac Bruce) could step up and do something.
It's times like these that I feel I have no social life what-so-ever.
So for my journalism class (forgive me, I'm bad with "class number" or "official titles" so it's just my journalism class for now) I had to attend a Fullerton city function, which is all well and good but I don't live in Fullerton. So I took Catherine and headed off to a Parks and Recreation Commission council meeting. Let me tell you, it was about as fun and exciting as it sounded. Hearing people discuss naming rights on some building at some community center I'm not familiar with or the size of plaques on memorial tree's I didn't know existed made me wonder "is this where my tax dollars are going?" Then I realized that I don't live in Fullerton, nor do I have (serious) political aspirations, and I let it go. Plus, I was freezing cold and wasn't in the mood to bitch, like I am now.
I think I'm getting sick. It sucks. I hate getting sick, because I won't go to the doctors unless I absolutely have to, and I'm extremely forgetful when it comes to taking medication regularly. So I suffer until my entire body shuts down. Plus I work and go to school full time, and I hate calling in sick to work and usually that's not an option anyways. And they wonder why I ask if I can use my sick pay for vacation time. Catherine, in the meantime, is playing nurse, making me eat spicy foods, drink orange juice, and get lots of rest. Last night I took her advice and ordered a fajita from Chili's. I ate about a third of it before my stomach started acting up. The fajita is currently sitting in the back of my car, and the mentioning of food makes my stomach turn. But that's a completely different illness altogether. Ugh, I'm dying.
I'm not going to sit here and get preachy (despite the fact that I have the tendency to) but I do feel I need to say something here about Proposition 8. For those of you who don't know what it is, proposition 8 is trying to define marriage in the California state constitution as marriage between a man and a woman. I just don't understand this? Why is same-sex marriage so threatening to the American public? There are far worse things in this world than a same sex couple. How about the video games your children play. You fear they'll grow up "gay" if they see same-sex couples, but aren't afraid they'll turn into Dexter if they play Grand Theft Auto? Give me a break. And who are the government to tell us who we can and can't marry? Homophobia needs to stop people. Vote NO on proposition 8.

I need to get ready for school.

Would you like another BIG ASS FRY
So no posts lately; its time to play catch-up.
So I think I'm finally over the Angels early playoff exit. It still doesn't sit well with me, but what's done is what's done. They had a great regular season, the best in franchise history, but beat themselves against Boston. I would just like to re-iterate that statement: The Angels beat themselves. And that's what disappointing about the exit. Well that and the fact that 1.) it was at the hands of the Boston Redsox and 2.) The Dodgers are currently playing in the NLCS. However that doesn't look like it's going to last long. Oh well, next year when Manny Ramirez is playing LF/DH for the New York Yankees we'll see how many people give a shit about the boys in blue.
Here, without further ado, are my five moves the Angels need to make in the offseason:
1.) Re-sign Mark Teixeira : Just show him the money, plain and simple. I shouldn't even need to explain this.
2.) Let K-Rod walk: He want's $15 milliion to CLOSE a baseball game, something that he did a record 62 times this past season. That stat is so misleading for the fact that out of the 62 times he did save a game, only like 18 were done 1-2-3. He's not worth $15 mil and you have Shields, Arredondo and Escobar who can close. Let him walk and take that money to re-sign Tex.
3.) Re-sign Juan Rivera : Juan is wasted on the bench, as he should be an every day starter. If you let him leave, he's going to put up the numbers he did in '06 when you allowed him to play full time. Gary Matthews is NOT an every day starting outfielder in the majors. Sign Garrett Anderson if you must, but don't underestimate Juan Rivera. By the way, that Jose Guillen for Maicer Izturis and Juan Rivera has shaped up to be a steal for the Angels.
4.) Lock up Vlad Guerrero and John Lackey: Vlad puts fans in the seats, and still had a good (if unbalanced) season. Lackey is a bonefied ace. He has the swaggar and the fire a-la Roy Halladay. Don't let him walk.
5.) Figure out what you're doing with farmhands : Kendry Morales, Brandon Wood, Nick Aidenhart, Nick Green, Sean Rodriguez, Bobby Wilson the list continues. If you're not going to use them then move them. Wood, Green, and Aidenhart are valuable chips. If you need to re-load than use them.
I think, though, the reason it doesn't sting as much is because of Catherine. She's probably also the reason why posts have been few and far-between. She's amazing. Every day with her ges better and better. Thursday night she cooked me dinner (which was delicious) and we just relaxed and watched Idiocracy (which I reccomend.) Yesterday was the first day since last Tuesdsay (not this last Tuesday, but the Tuesday before) that I didn't see her. Look, I'm a pretty independant person. I don't like people in general. I like my time to myself. With her though, I want to see her every day. It sucks when I don't. She makes me feel safe, and gives me a purpose. She has me acting like one of the boys in the couples that makes me sick. Seriously, we're the cheesiest couple on the planet; the kind that usually makes me vomit. And I love it. If that ain't love then I don't know what love is.
anyway I have things to do before work. Peace

Peace

Lessons Learned

Today was rough. I woke up thinking that maybe the heartache and disappointment of yet another Angels October demise would subside, but it didn't. It still lingered. I didn't want to get out of bed, and if it weren't for a couple assignments that needed to be turned in, I probably wouldn't have.
I was still at a loss for words. How exactly did a team that won 100 games in the regular season suddenly forget to play? Was it the pressure? Was it the Red Sox? I don't know. I tried not to dwell on it, but walking around my campus didn't help. It seems the majority of the Orange County chapter of Red Sox Nation attends Cal State Fullerton too, so all day I walked past smug assholes in green Red Sox hats and Papelbon jerseys. It took every ounce of strength to not say something.
After game one, Catherine met me somewhere to cheer me up. After game two (the single worst game I have ever attended) I met Catherine at a bar in downtown Fullerton so she could cheer me up. And she was also part of maybe the single greatest date I had ever been on in my life on Saturday. Today, after game four, she made sure that I was okay by calling and texting, and putting up with my shit. Today was one of those asshole days. You know, where no matter what you're just an asshole. I (lovingly I might add) razzed her for her love of Lord of the Rings, and every other dorky tendency she has. She rolled with it, and came over later on in the night. This is why she deserves the Nobel Prize in the field of "Kick Ass Girlfriend."
The moral of the blog? Sports are a nice distraction, but at the end of the day, it's just a game. The girlfriend can serve as a distraction, but at the end of the day she's what matters. Maybe I'm finally growing up?
Ps... this does not in any way excuse the poor situational hitting or Howie Kendrick's performance in the ALDS.

I
I'm playing FIFA 07 on my X-Box (not 360) and listening to Matt Pryor. It's safe to say I'm pretty bored. It's kind of nice though to relax and not have to worry about school or work or anything else. I just wish I had better games for the once a month itch I get to play video games.
So I'm not a card carrying member of the singles club anymore. No sir, I sold out. But, I might add, with just cause. See I met this girl named Catherine about three weeks back. Yeah, yeah I know it's too soon yada yada yada. I feel you. But sometimes you've just got to throw conventional wisdom out the window. I mean, if I feel a connection to this girl, then what's the big deal. But anyways, seriously she's amazing. We have the most awesome conversations, and just the best times I could possibly ask for. Yeah, she's beautiful, but it's her mind I'm crazy about. It's safe to say that I'm pretty taken right now. I'm real excited to see where this is going.
So the Angels open their playoffs tomorrow with the Boston Redsox. I'm giddy. Boston is going to be no easy task, as Angel fans are well aware of. You know, there are a lot of people talking about the eight in a row we took from Boston this season, but all I remember is the eight in a row they currently have taken from us in the postseason. It should be a lot of fun. I'll be at the game Friday...I'm pretty excited.
I planned on writing about the bailout and other political nonsense, but I'm pretty hooked on this FIFA game... so maybe tomorrow...
Peace

Forgot about Dre
So last night was way more entertaining then I had anticipated. I think this had a lot to do with Nicole and Christopher being there, but it was also (dare I say) nice to see some old friends. It was also nice to see Sean. I had a chance to talk to him and clear the air about some bullshit. I miss my best friend.
Anyways, its interesting that I get along with Christopher and Nicole as well I do. They both are fundamentally different than I am (well more so Nicole than Chris) but that doesn't stop us from having a great time. Nicole was getting a kick out of my musical selections, namely cheesy 90's hip hop that I could recite verbatim. I even drank a beer with Chris, and I don't even really like beer.
But I will admit this. The best part of my night was for the ten minutes I got to talk to Cat. I really do enjoy talking to her. I pretty much enjoy everything about her, to be honest. Ugh... that scares me.
No NFL picks this week. Sorry, my mind is set on the MLB Playoffs. So next week I'll unveil a new NFL format. You'll see.
I'm off to my cousin's sixteenth birthday party.
