I've felt a lot of things as a Clippers fan: ashamed, embarassed, disappointed. Hell, for one glorious season I was astonished, amazed, proud. But I never thought in a million years I'd feel betrayed. Even worse, I never thought Elton Brand would be the one to elicit that response.
Look, I'm a realist. I know the reputation the Clippers carry, and I know Brand want's to win. And I know it's easier to come out of the East, so I can understand why Brand went home to Philly who were a playoff team last year. But he didn't need to take the path he took. He didn't need to opt out, and then state that he's doing so so the Clippers could bring in better talent. He didn't need to say he'd take a pay cut, and then sign a 5 year $82 million dollar deal. He didn't need to demand a Baron Davis signing (a deal that Sterling and co. actually came through on,) then bolt. He should have just come out and said "Look, I want to win, and I don't see that happening with Los Angeles." I would have understood, and we could have focused on bringing back Correy Maggette, while signing Davis. Now Maggette is gone, and Davis will be running with Kaman/Thornton/Gordon/Mobley. This team will be hard pressed to win 25 games. It's sad to think the man who was my basketball hero, who made me proud to be Clipper fan, destroyed my franchise.
Oh well.. after all, it is the Clippers.
