Donald Sterling, welcome to the big-show

I've been trying to hold off until July 9th to express my excitement for the Los Angeles Clippers, but I feel the need to talk now. Yes, you read that right... the Los Angeles Clippers; excitement. I know, I know, I must be kidding. But the Clippers made headlines with the (verbal agreement) signing of Baron Davis. Now, two things are holding me back from jumping for joy and shedding a tear or two, and that's Elton Brand. Mr. Clipper seems to be caught in a bit of a prediciment. See, Davis' old team, the Golden State Warriors, have offered Brand a max contract, nearly $20 mil a year more than what the Clips could offer. Now Brand opted out (surprisingly) Monday to clear the cap room to bring in Davis (an old friend) and even stated he would take a pay cut to stay in LA. So assuming he's a man of his word, which I assume he is, let's take a look at the potential 2008-2009 Los Angeles Clippers:

G: Baron Davis/Brevrin Knight/Smush Parker
G: Cuttino Mobely/Quentin Ross/Eric Gordon(R)
F: Al Thornton/Tim Thomas
F: Elton Brand
C: Chris Kaman/DeAndre Jordan (R)

Assuming they'd pick up another forward to come off the bench, and assuming that two of the Ross/Parker/Knight group comes back... the Clips would definately be a legit contender. Kaman and Brand are one of the top three power forward/center duos in all of basketball, and players like Ross and Thomas off the bench could be huge. Thornton showed a lot of upside and potential last season, finding a spot on the NBA All-Rookie squad, and first round pick Eric Gordon has the potential to shine. But bringing in Davis was key. I'll talk more about this as more becomes official, but I'm just too giddy to not say anything. Finally my Clippers aren't irrelevant.
